ARE YOU READY TO RELEASE OLD STUFF?

THERE COMES A TIME when we must let go of ‘things’, possessions, old beliefs, anger, wounds, memories, places, and even people if we hope to improve our lives.

And sometimes, if we haven’t faced that music ourselves, the universe with a capital U will step in and either nudge us...a few times, or flat out whack us over the head to force the change. Why, you ask?

I wondered the same thing last month after coming out of three weeks of Covid, then dealing with brain fog, lack of revenue from not working for 3 weeks, and then a flat tire. I was also dealing with pulling together some contractor quotes to have my lower-level floor jack-hammered up half way across the width of the house in order to replace an old sewer line that intersects with the Pittsburgh kitchen. (Pittsburgh Kitchen: a second kitchen located in the basement for canning and prepping big meals for big families. Popularized during Pittsburgh’s industrial revolution.)

On Thursday night I was beginning to feel accomplished with plumbing quote and finish contractor both lined up I was ready to call my insurance agent in the morning to get things rolling. I had a good night’s sleep, finally.

Then early Friday morning I went downstairs to the laundry. With my first step off of the stairs onto the carpet my foot sank into a sopping wet flood zone. I followed the water around the corner and found my hot water tank had let loose of it’s holdings. The flood affected all 4 rooms of the lower-level. The wall to wall carpet and internal walls around the utility room and bathroom took most of the damage.

In the midst of ‘remediation’ in the 3 days that followed I found myself staring gratefully at all of the boxed items; art supplies, letters and photographs that had been spared due to being on higher shelves. Rapidly moving everything into groups and away from the water, I suddenly had a different perspective of what I’ve been holding on to. In that moment I saw my self-made overwhelm.

It was May, the middle of “Eclipse Season”, when things get ‘eclipsed out’, and on top of that Pluto moved into Aquarius for a short stay until June 11th when it retrogrades back into Capricorn until Jan. 2024. You see, Pluto dredges up ‘things’. Things we haven’t faced or dealt with, things that are holding us back and we have likely forgotten about, put on the back-burner, or chosen to ignore.

These things can be, items, thoughts, memories, beliefs, habits, patterns, etc. You get my drift?

Thus, all the ‘stuff’ in my lower-level I should have tossed years ago, which has been bothering me for a long time but I continually put off, was suddenly in my face.

I knew right then I’d been whacked in the head by the Universe. However, in my inner-processing I eventually noticed the benevolence attached to it. Been hoping to redo that lower-level since I bought the house 8 years ago.

With decent homeowners insurance I will get the redo. It may not be the quality I envisioned initially, but I am grateful for silver linings and attribute them to intentional gifts from above. For example, when my tire went flat the week before it was while I was in Home Depot parking lot rather than on the busy highway I took to get there.

And the hot water tank, it broke BEFORE the floor was jack-hammered and the new carpeting put in.

How can I not see these things as blessings? How can I not see there is purpose to what has happened?

Several years back I would have been upset and worried and fretting for days over these experiences. Once I began pulling myself together and going to ‘inner-processing’, i.e. what can the higher purposes be...I gained a new tool, perception shifting.

These days I look for the greater orchestration.

Now, I must go through everything, toss, or find new homes for things that had meaning but honestly have served their purpose for me. Time to release old papers, letters and cards. All but a few will be saved into a scrap book before the jackhammer arrives.

As a lifelong artist I can testify that artist’s and crafts people tend to see beauty in so many things. Or, we see potential uses for things and so hold onto them, which makes for more work, more storage, more clutter, and more dust.

SOMETIMES emotional memories too make for unfinished business. Our brains can hold a lot of information, much of it unnecessary, outdated, and meant to be released. But we resist.

I know many people who do that. They just can’t let go of old wounds, past hurts, memories of love lost, or experiences that still burn in their thoughts. Often times it’s because they are still trying to understand the WHY of it. I used to do that too, until I understood that mostly, we will never know the why. Accepting that can help us stop reliving things and looking to the past.

All of these details are things that keep us from reinventing our lives, keep us from living ahead rather than living behind. They keep us from stepping into a potential we haven’t dared ,or bothered, or made time … to imagine.

As they say in Feng Shui circles… you must clear away the old to make space for the new or it cannot arrive.

The debris of the past must be released. Well, not the good memories of course, not the photos or videos that when viewed bring a smile to your heart and face. Happy memories are important and do good, unless they are attached to deep grief that we cannot release. Then we must question...really what is the true value of visiting with this item, or reliving this memory when it spirals me into grief? If it keeps pulling me down, why do I allow it? If we can’t be honest with ourselves the cycle will likely continue.

What we all truly long for is to be joyfully renewed in some way.

RIGHT NOW… we have the help of Pluto, the planet of dredging up old, unfinished, unresolved things, forcing us to look squarely at them in order to help us get to that place of clearing inner-space and reinventing our lives, joyfully.

This moment in time is a period for personal transformation. We can participate in it, appreciate it and move through it to our new way of being. Or we can complain and be dragged kicking and screaming because Pluto will do what it does best, force resolution of the unresolved to make space.

One way or other...some aspect of change is going to appear for you because now is the time for shifts, according to the universal blueprint movement of the cosmos.

I say let’s try to bravely step ahead and decide where we want to go, how we want to live, who we authentically want to be – instead of reflecting in the rear-view mirror ad nauseam.

We should take whatever hint, tug, or opportunity we have to let go of our old ways and dive into the unknown territory of our hearts desires before we get whacked in the head with a dead fish.

Again, I can attest because I’m still pulling the scales out of my hair.
